"In the same room, the painter Bassem Yousri presents his works distinguished by a realism fed with influences of Hellenistic and ancient Egyptian art. That influence is apparent in the use of defining contours as well as in the use of colors. Bassem intends to reflect the expressions of frustration and sadness on the faces of the youth. Equally, he tends to unravel cultural contradictions among them; Fundamentalists with their large beards and their harsh, anxious, or perturbed gazes, and on the other hand the ones with the American fashion clothes living in the consumerism society. Yousri's works expose a strong talent in translating the internal life of his characters. That sensibility can develop to become more and more humanist as it is in the Fayoum portraits, for example, which highly influences our painter."
